Highlights from the Businesses Save Lives: World Breast Cancer Alliance Conference

May 2, 2025 | Bush House, King’s College London

On May 2nd, thought leaders, industry changemakers, survivors, and students gathered at King’s College London for the “Businesses Save Lives: The World Breast Alliance Conference”—a one-of-a-kind event spotlighting the powerful role business can play in advancing breast cancer awareness, early detection, and care.

Co-organized by King’s Business School and the Know Your Lemons Foundation, the conference explored how marketing, brand purpose, and community education can literally save lives. It was a day filled with bold ideas, personal stories, and impactful partnerships that are reshaping how breast health is approached across industries and borders.

🌍 Global Voices, Shared Mission

This wasn’t just a UK-based event—it was a truly global gathering. World Breast Alliance members from around the world—including ACCR Uganda and Inflammatory Breast Cancer UK—joined the conversation to share insights, successes, and challenges from their regions. The spirit of collaboration and unity echoed throughout the day, reinforcing that early detection and education are universal needs.

🔊 Unforgettable Voices, Unfiltered Truths

The conference featured a powerful keynote by Dr. Liz O’Riordan, award-winning speaker, author, and former breast cancer surgeon, who shared her dual perspective as both doctor and patient. Her talk underscored the importance of empathy, storytelling, and survivor-centered education.

We also heard from Lynsey, a breast cancer survivor who discovered her cancer early thanks to the Know Your Lemons 12 Signs of Breast Cancer image her boyfriend showed her. A few weeks later, she brushed her breast and felt something odd—like a lemon seed. The image popped into her mind, and she immediately sought medical advice. Because she saw the image, she caught it early and her life was saved.

💼 Business with a Breast Health Mission

Corporate voices like Craig Howes (Hologic) and Emma Betts (ASDA) showed what’s possible when business strategy meets public health purpose—from life-saving diagnostics to national awareness campaigns. These talks illustrated how companies can go beyond CSR to make meaningful, measurable health impacts.

🎓 Next-Gen Changemakers

Marketing students at King’s Business School took part in a school-wide challenge to design innovative strategies for business-led breast cancer awareness. The winning teams were celebrated during the event, showcasing how young minds are stepping up to shape a healthier future.

🧠 A Day of Insight, Emotion, and Action

Led by expert chairs including Professor Sally Everett, Dr. Mario Campana, Dr. Katharina Husemann, and Dr. Kyriaki Koukouraki, the panels explored how communication, research, and creative strategy can drive action—locally and globally.

🍋 Powered by Lemons & Purpose
