New to Know Your Lemons?

Here is a simple Q&A to help you navigate our campaigns, image use policies, programs, and more.

Most Asked

  • October is a great month to launch breast health education at your workplace! Our At Work Health Benefit is designed to deliver our education in company settings to improve screening rates and early detection. Book a demo now!

  • Thank you for raising awareness. Review our Image Use Policy before proceeding. If your intentions are in line with our guidelines and restrictions listed, contact hello@knowyourlemons.org to explain your use-case and preferred dimensions to obtain files.

  • Adding your logo, translating the image, and any other changes must be done as a partner. If you are a for-profit company, learn about corporate partnership here. If you are a charity, learn about charity partnership here. If you are a screening center, learn about screening center partnerships here.

  • Wonderful! It’s one of the things we do best. We have a partnership program for screening centers where you can cobrand our materials and order them from our shop in many languages. Learn more about the screening partner program here.

  • Our materials help to educate for early detection and that's our mission here at Know Your Lemons. This means all of our materials are tax exempt. There is no need to submit your documentation. We hope you enjoy your materials!

About the App

  • Your health data is secure and protected simply because we do not collect your data! We believe that health data is personal and private and should not be collected and sold to advertisers or funders. We are proud to say that we do not collect any personal info from our users. To learn more about our health privacy values click here.

  • Our app is free and available to everyone. We are able to keep the app running thanks to donations provided by our generous users and partners. Join our community that helps make the app free to everyone by donating here today!

  • That's fine! But our app is more than a period tracking app. If you have a menstrual cycle the period tracker is there for you to know when to do your self-exam as well (3 days after your period). We'd also like for you to be aware that it's possible the period tracking app you are using is collecting and selling your personal health data, and our app will not do that. To learn more about period apps collecting your personal health data click here.

  • Nope! You can opt into our monthly newsletters by entering in your email when you first download the app, but it is optional and does not cost any money.

  • We hope to provide the best experience for our users and want to be sure our app is running smoothly for you. If you are experiencing a problem with our app please reach out to hello@knowyourlemons.org with a detailed description and screen shot of the issues you are experiencing.

  • On the home screen (period dial screen) on the app you will notice a little gear in a circle to the bottom left of the period dial. Click the gear and you are now able to edit the length of your period by pressing the "+" and "-" symbols above the pink section to add and subtract days from your period. You can also edit which day you are on in your cycle by moving the lemon around the circle. You can edit your cycle's length at the bottom of the screen. Lastly, if you don't have a period you can toggle the option below "period" to the bottom right of the cycle to take out the period option on the app. The app will then remind you on the first of each month when to do your self-exam rather than 3 days after your period.

    • Be sure the Know Your Lemons app notifications are turned on. You can be sure of this by clicking on the little bell in a circle at the bottom left of the home screen. Schedule which day you would like your reminders to be sent to you by simply moving the toggle to the right.

    • Be sure that notifications are enabled on your phone for the Know Your Lemons app. To be sure app notifications are enabled on an Apple device click here. To be sure app notifications are enabled on an Android click here. To be sure app notifications are enabled on a Google Pixel phone click here.

  • Partly. An official risk assessment should be performed by your doctor or genetic counselor. Our Know Your Lemons app uses the Tyrer-Cuzick risk assessment which is a validated tool used by physicians to understand breast cancer risk and provide a breast cancer risk score. There are other risk assessment tools that might be better suited to your needs (for example if you are a man, or of a specific ethnicity), which your doctor may suggest. The risk assessment on the app is to be used as a tool to help you understand different risk factors, and create a draft screening plan. Everything with the app is meant to help you better communicate with your doctor and to provide education to support those conversations and finalize your screening plan. It is not meant to replace those important conversations.

  • The information you enter on the app stays on your phone. When you delete the app, your information will be deleted with it. There are no “accounts” to delete, as your personal information isn’t stored anywhere else but your phone.

Image Use Policy

  • We usually charge a fee for having our images included in a book. Contact us below with details about your book: Is the image on the cover or interior? What information will be next to the image? How will you credit Know Your Lemons®? How many copies will be printed? For how long will this book be distributed? And other publication information.

  • Thank you for helping to raise awareness about our charity by writing an article about us! You can view our Press Kit here.

  • This usually involves a fee if the image is being used for editorial work but the article doesn’t mention us. This is similar to fees for Getty Images (except these fees help pay for our education programs!). Just give us your circulation information, size needed for the image, whether this will appear in print/digital, and how credit will be attributed, using the contact form here.

  • Adding your logo, translating the image, and any other changes must be done as a partner. If you are a for-profit company, learn about corporate partnership here. If you are a charity, learn about charity partnership here.

  • You are more than welcome to share any of our images on our social media feed, so long as you do not alter them in any way (you cannot add your logo or crop or edit it), and make sure to tag us @knowyourlemons (we usually reshare on our stories!). When you add your logo to our images, it communicates to the audience that the image is yours, and it gets reshared that way. While it may fit in well with your look, we lose ownership of our work when you make changes in that way. If both of our logos appear together, it implies that we are partners. If you would like to partner as a company click here; if you would like to partner as a charity click here, if you would like to partner as an individual become an Ambassador!

  • You are welcome to use our images so long as you do not alter, crop, or change them in any way. You also cannot use them commercially. For example, if you are a charity who is fundraising as part of your presentation and using our work as part of the service (in this case a presentation to a company who is offering a donation as part of your presentation service), you are financially benefiting from our work. We do have charity partnerships, so learn how you can use our images as a partner charity here.

  • Of course! Just do not alter, crop, change or add to them in any way and you are welcome to use them in your school assignment.

  • Wonderful! It’s one of the things we do best. We have a partnership program for screening centers where you can cobrand our materials and order them from our shop in many languages. Learn more about the screening partner program here.
